The “Gallup” survey center has placed Tajikistan in the top of the world’s safest countries, whose “inhabitants trust the police and do not feel in danger when walking at night.”
The result of this poll is published at a time when at least two people were killed and dozens were tortured in Tajikistan due to the brutality and misbehavior of the police.
A new Gallup report was published at the end of October and includes the opinion of residents about their trust in the police and their sense of danger and safety in 142 countries.
In this ranking, Tajikistan with 96 points, Finland and Iceland with 92 points are among the safest countries in the world.
The authors of the report say that they asked thousands of residents of Tajikistan face to face whether they trust the local police and are afraid of traveling at night in their country or not. According to “Gallup”, most of the respondents said that they trust the police and do not feel any danger while walking at night.
The poll was conducted in 141 countries by phone or face to face. About a thousand people from every country participated in this survey.
Nearly 7 in 10 people, or 71% worldwide, said they felt safe walking alone in their neighborhood at night in 2022. 72 percent said they trust the local police. About one in eight people said that their property or that of another family member had been stolen in the past year. One out of 16 people said that they were assaulted or robbed in the past year.
For the first time in such a survey, Tajikistan took the first place with 96 points and Liberia took the last place with 49 points. In the past few years, these two ranks were occupied by Singapore and Afghanistan, respectively.
