The number of victims of mudflows in Tajikistan has reached 17 people. Previously, 13 deaths were reported.
The Committee for Emergency Situations of Tajikistan reported on August 29 to Radio Ozodi that over the past 24 hours, as a result of a search operation, the bodies of four people – three women and one man – were recovered from the Kofarnikhon River. The bodies were transferred to the appropriate institutions for forensic medical examination.
On August 27, heavy rains caused mudflows, rockfalls and landslides in several cities and regions of the country. According to official data, the disaster killed 17 people and damaged dozens of houses and vehicles. It is possible that the number of victims may be higher, as work to eliminate the consequences of the disaster continues.
