Ibrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, visited Tajikistan on November 8 and met with Emomali Rahmon, the president of Tajikistan. The cancellation of visa (visa) for 30 days between Iran and Tajikistan was signed by the ministers of foreign affairs of the two countries.
During this visit, the two sides also signed memorandums of understanding on transport, on the free economic zone and on the fight against narcotics, but the most important point in the visit of the Iranian president is the cancellation of military visas between the two countries.
“The increase in flights between the two countries and the simplification of the transportation system were considered favorable conditions for the expansion of cooperation in the field of tourism,” said Emomali Rahmon.
Until now, there was a visa system between Tajikistan and Iran, and the citizens of the two countries had to wait weeks for visas to travel.
Previously, Tajik-Iranian activists proposed to remove visas between the two countries. They said that in this case, thousands of Iranians will come to Tajikistan as tourists.
Relations between Iran and Tajikistan reached the lowest level in 2015. The authorities in Dushanbe blamed Iran for supporting the HNIT and attempting a coup d’état and inciting a civil war.
Iranian media accused Tajik authorities of stealing millions of dollars from Babak Zanjani, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Iran.
In recent years, relations between the two countries have warmed again.
