Tajikistan and the Maldives have signed a visa waiver agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to travel freely between them for short stays. The agreement was signed in New York by Jonibek Hikmat, Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Ali Naseer Mohamed, the Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the UN.
The new agreement exempts citizens of both nations from visa requirements for entry, exit, transit, and stays of up to 30 days. This will simplify travel between the two countries, promoting tourism, business, and cultural exchanges.
The visa waiver is set to take effect 30 days after both countries receive official notifications confirming completion of internal procedures. This marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and the Maldives.
The agreement is open-ended, offering long-term benefits for the citizens of both nations. It is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and foster closer cooperation.
Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports a growing trend in foreign visits, with over 1.22 million foreign visitors arriving in Tajikistan in the first nine months of 2024, reflecting a 19% increase from the previous year.
