Today, on February 17, the First May District Court considered Gulnara Jurabayeva and Klara Sooronkulova, who were arrested in the Kempir-Abad case and placed in pretrial detention, and kept them in custody until April 20.
Perizat Suranova, who was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to her health, reviewed the restraining order from the outside and put her under house arrest. According to the court decision, Suranova will be under house arrest until April 20.
Klara Sooronkulova stated in court that she needs a medical operation due to her health.
Lawyer Chinara Zhakupbekova told journalists who visited the court that she will appeal to the Bishkek City Court against the decision issued to Sooronkulova.
On February 17, the said court extended the term of detention of Asiya Sasykbaeva and Rita Karasartova by two months.
On February 15-16, the First May District Court considered the restraining order of 21 people arrested en masse in the Kempir-Abad case. He left 19 people in pre-trial detention for two months and extended the house arrest of three until April 20.
With this, the First May District Court considered preventive measures against 26 people who were arrested on October 23-28 as suspects in the Kempir-Abad case, and kept 22 in pre-trial detention for a period of two months. The house arrest of the four was extended for another two months.
Among them, politicians Mambetjunus Abylov and Ravshan Jeenbekov are currently in hospital due to health issues. The court ordered them to return to the pre-trial detention center after the end of the treatment period.
It became known on January 18 that the case will be considered under the secret authority. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not commented on this and the conclusion. The lawyers appealed to the court with an application to hold it open.
In October 2022, a meeting of protestors against the transfer of the land of the Kempir-Abad reservoir on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border to Uzbekistan was held.
After that, the civil association “Kempir-Abad Protection Committee” was formed, which included many well-known politicians, activists, human rights defenders and civil activists. Soon about thirty of them were arrested. In addition, several people who sympathized with them were arrested. Currently, about 20 people are in custody in Bishkek pre-trial detention center No. 1 (SIZO-1), three of them were put under house arrest.
