Another victim of the avalanche was a driver on the Dushanbe-Chanok road. The IRS company responsible for maintaining the Dushanbe-Chanok road, which receives money from drivers, says that the incident happened after noon on February 15 at kilometer 66 in Varzob region.
According to the source, the deceased was an Opel-Zefira driver who “disregarded the experts’ recommendations and got out of the car.”
“All cars were banned and the BDA employees emphasized that there are no people in the car. But this driver is indifferent and gets out of the car and the avalanche puts him under the truck,” said the IRS company.
The Dushanbe-Chanok road, the only traffic route to the north of the country, has been closed since the evening of February 15.
According to the videos obtained by Radio Ozodi, there was an avalanche in Sangvor district on February 15. Officials say that a resident of this district was rescued from under it.
The Emergency Situations Committee of Tajikistan, relying on the information of the Meteorological Agency, warns of heavy rains and the risk of avalanches from February 15 to 17. Therefore, the residents are asked to refrain from unnecessary trips to the highlands.
