Dr. Hani Swilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, met Daler Juma, Minister of Water Resources and Energy of the Republic of Tajikistan, where they discussed joint cooperation efforts between Egypt and Tajikistan in organizing international events related to water, especially the “United Nations Conference for the Midterm Review of the Water Decade”, on the sidelines. His participation in the activities of the “United Nations Midterm Review Conference” in New York.
Swelam praised the active role of the State of Tajikistan in preparing for this important conference, which is being organized under the joint leadership of the Netherlands and Tajikistan.
Swailem also stressed the growing development in cooperation between Egypt and Tajikistan in the field of water, which culminated in the participation of the Tajik President in the opening activities of the water pavilion organized by Egypt during the last climate conference COP27, in addition to the membership of Egypt and Tajikistan in the “Coalition of Water and Climate Leaders”.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on the objectives of the conference, and ways to enhance cooperation between different countries of the world to face water challenges and work to highlight the “water and climate change” file.
This comes as the activities of the United Nations Midterm Review Conference for the Water Decade continue in New York, in conjunction with the celebration of World Water Day.
During the conference, the countries of the world will review the progress made in implementing the goals of the “Decade of Action for Water”, identify the obstacles facing their achievement, and develop innovative ways to support their implementation and accelerate progress in this field.
Likewise, Egypt seeks to mobilize the efforts of the international community to support water issues, especially since global water challenges at the present time negatively affect many countries around the world, especially developing countries, led by African countries, which calls for more international cooperation in this field.
The Minister of Irrigation explained that the United Nations mid-term review conference was preceded by the holding of many regional and international events on the path of preparing for this conference, and the resulting recommendations will be presented to be presented during the conference.
