The Court of Appeal (Cassation) in Russia sentenced Alexander Syomin, guilty of the murder of Huvaido Tillozoda, a five-year-old Tajik girl, to life imprisonment.
Defense attorney Shavkatjon Umarov told Radio Ozodi that the verdict was handed down on September 13. “The sentence of the first instance on the 24-year imprisonment of Alexander Syomin was canceled,” he added.
The first court verdict against Syomin was issued on March 15 of this year . Relatives of Huvaido Tillozada were dissatisfied.
On September 14, Shavkatjon Umarov told Radio Ozodi: “Both the prosecutor and the victim were dissatisfied with the first verdict. Syomin’s defense lawyer demanded that he be acquitted. We demanded that the punishment be more severe. The prosecutor also agreed with the victim’s side, but the court sentenced Alexander Syomin to life imprisonment.”
According to the legislation of Russia, after the decision of the second level, the sentence comes into effect. In any case, Alexander Syomin has the right to appeal the verdict within six months. He himself protested after the new verdict.
