Oyisha Mirzoyeva, the stepmother of “Group 24” chairman Sohrab Zafar and the sister of imprisoned general Ghaffor Mirzoyev, says that the authorities have cut off the electricity cable in her house. In the last one day, this is the second complaint of relatives of the opposition about lack of electricity. Officials did not appear to explain the issue.
Mrs. Mirzoyeva said on October 12, three employees of the Vose District Electricity Authority went to her house in Kaduchi village and cut the electric wire in her yard.
“The head of the district electricity department was with them. When I asked if I was in debt? He said no. I asked, why did you cut our electricity? They said, the order is from above, and if you are dissatisfied, go and file a complaint yourself. I went to the security office, they said. If we don’t have any information, we will check and call,” said Oyisha Mirzoyeva.
Our attempt to get an official explanation from the authorities of Vose District has been unsuccessful so far. Official views will be added to the article when available.
Sohrobi Zafar is the head of “Group 24”, an organization opposed to the Tajik government, whose activities are banned inside the country. Oyisha Mirzoyeva told Radio Ozodi earlier that she has not heard from him since 2004.
This is the second time in the last day that relatives of the opposition have complained about the power cut in their homes. On October 12, Oyishamo Abdulloeva , the mother of Sharofiddin Gadoev, one of the representatives of the opposition, said that the authorities cut off the electricity in her house. Abdulloeva complained that she has diabetes and does not know how to live without electricity.
Sharofiddin Gadoev, a member of the National Pact, a coalition of organizations opposed to the government, whose activities are banned in Tajikistan.
Representatives of the opposition say that after holding demonstrations during Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Germany, the authorities detained and tortured their relatives in Tajikistan. On October 6, Human Rights Watch said in a report that until now about 50 relatives of Berlin protesters have been arrested in Tajikistan and some have been released after interrogation.
