The eleventh international exhibition “Book of Dushanbe” started on October 3 in the National Museum of Tajikistan and will continue until October 5. 30 domestic publishers and representatives of seven countries, including Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkey, India, Belarus, Turkmenistan and Russia, came here. In this exhibition, you can find the works of classical and modern Tajik writers to Russian and Turkish writers.
Nurmohammad Shams, a resident of Dushanbe, visits the book fair every year. He says that this year, unlike the previous years, some books have been offered to the reader again, and their names are very few.
Our interlocutor, who is a book designer, said, “There are few booths in the exhibition that sell their books. This is an exhibition, we have to find the book here and then buy it. However, there is interest, few people read books. but they read well”.
Some of the readers welcome the holding of such a book exhibition, calling it a means of promotion of reading, and say that the organization of book sales and its promotion should always be carried out.
Marjona Farosatshoeva came to this exhibition together with her classmates from the university. He used to be interested in books that recount the history of Tajikistan. “I study audiovisual archives, and history books are very important. In general, I think that reading books is necessary. It broadens one’s worldview,” he added.
The international exhibition “Book of Dushanbe” has been held since 2011, and the works of hundreds of domestic and foreign writers and poets are exhibited there. The representatives of the authorities considered holding such an exhibition as a good opportunity for cultural exchange between the publishers of the countries.
Rahmonali Miralizoda, the head of the publishing and publishing department of the Ministry of Culture of Tajikistan, told Radio Ozodi, “books are in every genre. Therefore, of course, they have a great influence on the minds of young people. As they, in addition to the books they see in Tajikistan, read foreign books. they will get to know their quality and subject matter. A number of Russian and Iranian artists are participating here, with whom we will also hold workshops.”
The “Book of Dushanbe” exhibition is held at a time when the topic of books and reading has been discussed a lot in the media and social networks in recent years. The concern of some intellectuals in Tajikistan is that the desire of young people to buy and read books, especially the works of scholars and writers of the country, has decreased. Although, according to them, a number of books have been published, but they are said to be “lying” in bookstores.
