Yasmin al-Nimr, an athlete from Tajikistan, won a gold medal in the 14th World Bodybuilding Championship (WBPF) held in South Korea in the women’s individual competition in the weight up to 75 kg.
This is Yasmin’s second victory in the world bodybuilding championship. He also won a gold medal in Thailand last year.
Also last year, Yasmin won two medals – gold and silver – at the Asian bodybuilding championship in the Maldives.
In an interview with Radio Ozodi last year, her coach Olim Parpiev said that Yasmin has been involved in sports since 2015. Parviev says, “Yasmin was originally engaged in powerlifting or weightlifting. When she switched from powerlifting to bodybuilding, she weighed 84 kilograms and during her training, she managed to lose 30 kilograms in a short period of time. Jasmine pays great attention to nutrition and training. which is the key to his success,” says the coach.
Yasmin al-Nimr does not participate in powerlifting competitions. Although he has won the title of champion of Tajikistan in this field many times, he focused his attention on bodybuilding.
Yasmin, who lived in Moscow with her parents (her father is an Arab and her mother is a Tajik), after graduating from high school, entered the Slavic University of Russia and Tajikistan. Now he lives in Dushanbe.
Yasmin al-Nimr says that her parents and brothers accepted her work in the family, and the only person who raised her voice against her work until the end is her mother.
By the way, Tajik society, where more than 90 percent of its population are Muslims, has been going through contradictory social developments in recent years. After the collapse of the former Soviet system, religious ideas rose in Tajikistan and influenced the clothes and beliefs of many women.
In such conditions, the worldly part of society, like female bodybuilders and weightlifters, are trying hard to realize their dreams and desires.
Scientist Parpiev said, “If such sportswomen want to, of course, they can perform on stage. But not in Tajikistan. Because our people and our mentality are not ready for such scenes. I have been to many foreign countries and I know that it is common for a woman to perform in a bikini. But not in Tajikistan. Because the appearance of a male athlete in a special swimsuit on the stage is also criticized.”
The Bodybuilding and Powerlifting Federation of Tajikistan was founded in 2003 by the initiative of the famous Tajik weightlifter, former world and Asian champion Tole Kholnazarov, who is the head of this organization.
Mr. Kholnazarov said in an interview with Radio Ozodi on November 10, “a lot of work is being done for the development of bodybuilding and powerlifting in the country. With the support of the Youth and Sports Committee of Tajikistan, as well as the financial assistance of sponsors, our athletes participate in international competitions and achieve good results. Meanwhile, our main task is to attract more sponsors to support athletes who represent Tajikistan on the world stage.”
