The employees of the United Nations office in Dushanbe, like their colleagues around the world, observed a moment of silence in memory of 101 employees of this organization and other victims of the war between Israel and Hamas.
On November 13, the UN flag was flown at half-mast in UN offices all over the world, and the employees of this organization mourned.
The UN office in Dushanbe wrote on its Facebook page that “we pay tribute to the courage, bravery and dedication of our colleagues who tragically lost their lives in the Gaza Strip.”
101 staff members of the UN agency dealing with Palestinian refugees have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza, and according to Tatyana Volovaya, head of the UN in Geneva, this is the largest number of staff of the organization to be killed in a short period of time.
In Gaza itself, health officials and people trapped inside the city’s largest hospital rejected Israeli claims that the country had helped evacuate children and others to safety on November 12. They said that the conflict continues near the hospital, and the incubators are without electricity and the necessary hospital resources are running out. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called an immediate ceasefire impossible until the release of 240 hostages by Hamas.
The European Union has requested a temporary ceasefire to deliver fuel to Gaza hospitals.
Janez Lenarchic, an official of the European Union, said on November 13 that half of Gaza’s hospitals have stopped working due to lack of fuel. He said that the fire would save the lives of hundreds of people from death.
Israel began bombing Gaza after Hamas attacked the country on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 200 hostages.
More than 11,000 people were killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza, most of them women and children.
