“Group 24”, an organization banned in Tajikistan, announced in a statement about the extradition of Bilal Qurbanaliev, an arrested member of this group, to Dushanbe.
Qurbanaliev was arrested in October this year for violating the rules of residence in Germany.
On December 8, the representatives of “Group-24” said in a statement that the deportation center of the German Ministry of Migration in the city of HOF on November 24 extradited Bilol Qurbanaliev to Tajikistan. The decision to extradite him was issued on the same day, and on November 27, it reached the hands of his defense attorney.
According to the information of this opposition organization of the Tajik government, Kurbanaliev’s defense attorney considers his extradition illegal and plans to file an appeal against this decision and for his return to the higher court.
The authorities of Tajikistan have not officially explained the case, and it is not known where and under what conditions he is being kept.
Bilal Qurbanaliev, a member of “Group 24”, went to Germany from Kiev after Russia’s war with Ukraine and did not have asylum status.
According to representatives of the banned group in Tajikistan, he participated in opposition demonstrations in Berlin during the visit of President Emomali Rahmon.
Previously, the members of “Group 24” were concerned about the unclear fate of this active member of the group and the danger of his extradition to Tajikistan, and asked the German government and human rights organizations to protect him.
Opponents are afraid that in Tajikistan he will be tortured and tortured by the authorities and will be imprisoned for a long time. Ubaidullo Saidi, the spokesperson of “Group 24” told Radio Ozodi, “If he is forced to return to Tajikistan, he will be threatened with imprisonment, torture and, in fact, destruction.”
In 2022, the authorities of Tajikistan brought nearly a hundred people, including 18 suspects of terrorism and extremism, to Dushanbe from foreign countries, including Russia, and imprisoned some of them for long periods.
A few days ago, Ben Cardin, the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate, in a letter to the President of Tajikistan, was concerned about the repression of political opponents and representatives of religious minorities and civil society.
