Relatives of a lecturer at the Tajik State University of Commerce, Ismoil Rakhmonov, who was abducted on July 12, are concerned about the fact that more than a month after the incident, the prosecutor’s office does not allow them to get acquainted with the materials of the criminal case.

On this fact, the assistant to the head of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, police lieutenant colonel Akmal Yusufzoda, as well as his relative Ismoiljon Shukurov, a teacher at the Tajik State University of Commerce, were detained. In relation to both, the Prosecutor General’s Office is investigating the case on charges of kidnapping (part two of Article 130, paragraphs “a, c” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan).

On July 24, a spokesman for the Prosecutor General’s Office told Radio Ozodi that the investigation into the case had not yet been completed and asked for an official request for more details.

Relatives of Ismoil Rakhmonov reported that they were warned to refrain from communicating with the media and took a receipt from them. One of the relatives, who did not wish to be named, told Radio Ozodi on 25 July that they wanted to hire a lawyer to provide them with legal assistance.

The legislation of Tajikistan does not prohibit familiarization of the parties with the materials of the criminal case.

“We applied several times to get acquainted with the case, to find out what testimony the detainees gave, and at what stage the investigation of the case is now, but the Prosecutor General’s Office did not provide such an opportunity. In this regard, we wrote a written request to be informed about the progress of the investigation of the case. We are waiting for their response. There is still no news about the fate of Ismoil, we would like to know what the investigation managed to establish,” said one of the relatives of the kidnapped teacher.

The kidnapping of Ismoil Rakhmonov, which caused a resonance in social networks, took place on the night of June 12 in the metropolitan microdistrict “1st Soviet”.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the defendants forcibly put Ismoil Rakhmonov in a car, tied his hands and threw him in the town of Chore into the Fondarya River on the 118th kilometer of the Dushanbe-Khujand highway, on the territory of the Ayni district, and then fled the scene.

Since then, 50 days have passed, but, as the family of the abducted person said, there is no news about the fate of Ismoil.

“Together with the staff of the Committee for Emergency Situations, we continue the search. We combed the area up to Uzbekistan. We gave 20 thousand somoni to people to help us search in the water. The reluctance to provide details of the case strengthens our suspicions that Ismoil may have been thrown not into the river, but somewhere else, ”said one of his relatives. According to him, despite this, they hope that “Ismoil will be found alive, or at least they will be given his body for burial.”

The kidnapping of this teacher was first reported by Radio Ozodi, citing its sources.

On June 19, Radio Ozodi obtained the following video: two people are dragging a man, who is called a teacher Ismoil Rakhmonov.

On June 24, Radio Ozodi received the following comment from the Prosecutor General’s Office on this material: Akmal Yusufzoda, head of the department for analysis, planning and international relations of the Department for Organized Crime Control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, was detained three days after the incident. Together with the suspect, his relative, Ismoiljon Shukurov, a teacher at the Tajik State University of Commerce, was also detained.

According to official information, the incident occurred on the basis of jealousy.

According to Radio Ozodi sources, Akmal Yusufzoda’s wife and Ismoil Rakhmonov worked together at the Tajik State University of Commerce. The university reported that Rakhmonov taught management, and the wife of a police lieutenant colonel taught English.

Relatives of Akmal Yusufzoda and his wife do not provide comments.

Ismoil Rakhmonov, 38, was born in the Dzhaihun (formerly Kumsangir) district and worked at the Department of Management at the Tajik State University of Commerce. He left four children.
